Workshops

Below is a sampling of some of the workshops that are geared toward youth in their late teens to early 20s. We tailor our offerings to match each of our partner's needs and requests.

  • Career Development Workshops

    At the career development workshops, the students will learn about different career paths and have access to computers to research and apply to internships and jobs.

  • Healthcare Literacy and Education Workshops

    In the healthcare workshops, the students will learn about nutrition, healthy living and "healthy" life style choices. Multimedia, including films and the internet will also be utilized to educate and inform the students.

  • Legal Rights Workshops

    Students in the legal rights workshops will learn about legal rights of adolescents, proper interactions with law enforcement, and their rights in the community. Role playing, multimedia, film, television, and computers will be utilized to foster critical thinking and awareness.

  • Literacy Workshops

    Literacy is defined by UNESCO as "the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate, compute and use printed and written materials associated with varying contexts. Literacy involves a continuum of learning to enable an individual to achieve his or her goals, to develop his or her knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in the wider society." A wide array of literacy programs ranging from health literacy, art literacy to mental health literacy, all focused on broadening the horizons of the students served are offered. Our organization, with the help of funding, will create a robust, unique library that incorporates artwork, books, film, and other multimedia to fully incorporate the arts, education, film and books into the literacy educational process.

  • Mental Health Workshops

    The mental health workshops will provide an overview
    of "healthy choices" for students from a mental health perspective. Students will also role play and watch films that portray mental health issues from an adolescent’s point of view.

  • Preparatory Workshops

    SAT, LSAT, GRE, GMAT, MCAT
    Students will engage in intensive workshops in preparation of college and graduate school entrance exams. Diagnostic tests will be given and special tutoring classes will be available to students as needed.

  • Social and Professional Etiquette Workshops

    In our social etiquette workshop, students will learn proper table and etiquette. In the professional workshop, students will role play different aspects of professional life, which will include introductions to the interviewing process.

  • Running and Fitness

    A volunteer from the New York Road Runners Foundation lead running groups through Central Park, and other parks across the city on different days of the week. Meanwhile, fitness workshops educate students on nutrition and healthy living.
