Ms. Sylvia James, is the Diversity Counsel at Baker Botts and is based in the firm's Washington, D.C. office.
As diversity counsel at Baker Botts, James coordinates the implementation of initiatives to enhance recruitment, development and retention of attorneys from diverse backgrounds and to manage the firm's recognized supplier diversity program .
Prior to joining Baker Botts, James was senior counsel at Holland & Knight in Washington, D.C., specializing in corporate diversity counseling and labor and employment law. Before that, she was an associate in at Scopelitis, Garvin, Light & Hanson and Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld. She earned her law degree from the Duke University School of Law and a bachelor of arts (with honors) in political science from Vassar College. She is licensed to practice law in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
