Summer Internship Program

The Summer Internship program, which will be piloted in the Summer of 2010 with 10 students, will be comprised of college students who are from underserved communities. We will partner with various companies to secure these internships. Students will go through a detailed interview and application process in order to be accepted into our program which includes a community outreach component, social/cultural activities, networking, healthcare education and other life-skills training.

The program schedule is as follows:
Eight week internships for students Monday - Thursday.
Friday is a programming/academic day with our organization that will follow the schedule below:


Friday Schedule

9:00AM-10:30AM: Students report on their internship progress and community service project progress

10:30AM-12:00PM: Career/Professional Guest Speaker

12:00PM-1:00PM: Lunch Break

1:00PM-3:00PM: Life-skills/healthcare workshop
with workshop leader (i.e. etiquette,
financial responsibility, mental health issues,
art appreciation, music appreciation)

3:00PM-4:00PM: Academic workshop (i.e. preparing for MCATs/GREs/GMATs, deciding on coursework for upcoming year)

Students will also have a community service project to complete. Each student will be responsible to track, follow and report a project that will already be up and running when the students enter the program. Additionally, the students will participate in a weekly social/cultural event after work which will involve events that are socially and culturally relevant as well as enjoyable for them.
